Overnight Summer Camp - Sign Up A Year In Advance And Other Great Tips

There are overnight summer camps that are co-ed camps, boy's camps, girl's camps or brother-sister camps where boys and girls may have separate venues and activities. Basically, if you can think of any subject of interest, there's probably a camp that specializes in it. Many kid campers are enrolled in summer camp by their parents early in the year, thus camps fill up quickly.

Camps are divided by gender - girls only, boys only, or co-ed and again by age group. An overnight summer camp is a supervised program for children and teens conducted during the summer months in most countries; children and teens, called campers, who attend camp, participate in a variety of activities, many of which are special interest. The variety of camps available today is almost innumerable, meaning there will be some specialized camps that may have availability left even into the summer.

Selecting the right camp that fits into your child or teen's interests, special interests, needs, special needs and abilities will be one of the first steps Beyond the traditional sports - baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, tennis, football, and more - there are camps for outdoor enthusiasts that can offer horseback riding, hiking, camping, fishing, and even rapelling. Some camps have a targeted focus like religious study, academics, and competitive sports.

Consider these industry-recommended guidelines - for smaller children ages 7 and 8, there should be one counselor for every six campers; by age 15, there should be one counselor for every 10 campers. Children will get more individual attention and supervision with a lower number of campers per counselor. Although camp counselor jobs don't usually pay very well, usually minimum wage or less, counselors receive free room and board; many take the job primarily for the camping experience.

There are many types of overnight summer camps with a focus on education that cater to students with differing ages and academic interests. Specialty overnight camps can range from $500 to $1000 per week depending on the program. Camp tuition can be expensive; similar to travel insurance, there are now insurance policies for families sending their children to overnight summer camp to cover last minute cancellations, homesickness, medical emergencies and emergency evacuations.

The reputation of an overnight summer camp can also be determined by asking what percentage of counselors returned from the previous year. Check the camper-counselor ratio to determine the number of campers for each counselor. Do you think, if you have more than one child, they would they benefit from attending the same summer camp together?

Weight loss camps are for children and teens in order to help them learn about how to lose weight and how to keep it off while having a great overnight summer camp experience. Non-profit camps often range from $1200 to $3000 for four weeks and $2500 to $5000 for eight weeks. Children or teens could typically explore subjects new to them like marine science, photography, creative writing, community service, drama, magic, scuba diving, video production, comic book design, crime scene forensics, cooking, yoga, rappelling, etc.

Homesickness is a frequent problem, but with a caring camp counselor most campers adjust easily. You want to ensure your child's safety and comfort, so try to talk to current campers at the selected camps and their parents, if possible. If you spend the time needed to research your options and include your child in all the decisions, he or she will most likely have a memorable experience that provides opportunities to grow while having a lot of fun and making new friends. Choosing a camp close to home will save a lot of money on airfare and possible hotel or motel overnight stays for a parent, or other transportation costs; this is especially true if your child might get a case of homesickness and want to come home early from the overnight summer camp.

Best Summer Jobs For Teachers - How to Pick a Great Teaching Position

Summer teaching opportunities can be great experiences for the new teacher, and they can be also time consuming. On the good side, summer teaching jobs are a good way to make a little bit of extra money and they'll look good also on your resume. They might also open a door or two for future employment if you make a good impression on your employers. They also help keep up the work momentum without the added stress.

On the minus side, summer teaching jobs can take a great deal of preparation and planning, leaving little time for true relaxation. Usually, most summer teaching jobs are full time due to the length of summer, so expect to work hard.

If you're trying to choose a good summer teaching job, here are some suggestions.

Good Summer Teaching Jobs

Tutoring and coaching jobs. The one-on-one or small group dynamics are usually discipline free. Students are usually very motivated to learn and catch up on material they have missed during the past school year. Most likely you'll be tutoring just a few hours every day, which means you can still catch up on your summer reading and head to the pool. Other large test preparatory programs such as Kaplan do have tutoring positions open as well as instructing full classes, so choose your preference.

Internships. For teachers who are also college students, summer internships may be a good experience to get college credit. In doing so, you'll prepare yourself for the school year.

Writing test passages. If you already have experience writing test questions, you know that writing a good test is hard. However this part time work can be fulfilling and financially worth it, but without the added stress of marking and recording.

Sports classes, lifeguarding and anything that is practically outdoors. Summer is a good time to get away from the classroom. Refresh yourself from marking and lesson plans and enjoy the great outdoors of nature in the summer time.

Field trips. Trips to new places are often a good informal way to study the environment and observe nature.Working at field trip venues can also be a great way to scout out places to take your class during the school year.

Anything that you love doing, but can't necessarily do during the school year because you are too busy.

Other Summer Teaching Employments

Sleep-away camps. These types of camps usually involve a long term commitment and can be stressful. You don't really have a lot of time to yourself and for planning the upcoming school year.

Summer job abroad for teachers. These international teaching experiences can be an excellent way to see a new country and teach a foreign language that perhaps you speak or even teach. Many host foreign countries offer ESL teaching opportunities. A teacher summer vacation job is an ideal time to also work and learn about the target culture.

You could possibly teach summer classes at your local community college if you have anything from a Master's degree up. Contact also your school district; perhaps they have summer school teaching jobs or tutoring jobs.

And finally, there is the Internet. There are plenty of online tutoring work and educational writing jobs. Avoid sign-up fees and double check before you sign anything.

Best of luck with your summer plans!

Summer Day Camps Are Great for Bored Children!

Summer is a fun time for activity and enjoyment for kids. Camps can help them fill their summer with excitement. The following is a look at some of the summertime activities for kids and the benefits of summer camp:

Kids love to swim. Swimming has been a summer pastime for years. Many summer camps offer swimming as an activity that kids can participate in, and most kids jump at the chance to do so. They love the ability to stay cool, get a tan, and just enjoy time with friends. This is a great way to get fit during the summer as well. Swimming can be a full body workout, which means that having your kids participate in swimming as one of their summer activities, and as an activity offered at any camp you send them to. If you aren't sending your kid to summer camp, and there is a pool nearby, then get them a swim pass to the poor for the summer so that they have something to do during the summer.

Another great summer activity for kids is a team sport. There are all kinds of soccer leagues, baseball, t-ball, football, touch football, softball, coach pitch, tennis, and other things. So, ask your kid which summer activity they are interested in, and then sign them up. They can either be part of a team that they practice with and play games on weekends or a specific night of the week. Or, they might want to go to a summer camp that is a sports camp and focused on a specific sport, so they learn different skills, drills, techniques, and the like. Sports help kids learn to get along with others, work with people, helps them stay active, and can be a lot of fun. These are all good reasons for sports and sport camps to be part of your kid's summer activities.

Another great summer activity is having your kid take a class or visit a day camp or summer camp of some kind. Usually it is something like space camp, or a class on photography or something else that interests them, but is still fun for summer, and is not really serious like a literature class or math class. Options could include things like pottery, art, music, dance, karate, etc. Find an activity your child has always wanted to be apart of or try, and then sign them up for a camp or a class so that they can experience. It will fill their day with fun activities, and give them a chance to see if they are as interested in it as they thought they would be.

If you are running low on activities for your kid, ask them what they are interested in. Most recreation centers, colleges, and the like offer plenty of summer activities to keep your kids busy and learning, while having fun.
